The Nearness of God

The Nearness of God

You’re not searching for a far-off God—He’s already here, closer than your breath.

The Nearness of God
Share

Hello beloved,

It’s easy to believe in God’s presence when life feels full and the path is clear.
But what about the days when silence hangs heavy?
When your prayers echo back empty?
When it feels like you’re walking alone?

The truth is—you are never alone.
God is not distant, indifferent, or far-off.
He is Emmanuel—God with us.
He is near to the brokenhearted, close to the crushed in spirit, and present in every sacred, unseen moment of your life.

This week in The Lovely Crux, we’re pausing to rest in His nearness.
Not trying harder. Not chasing more.
Just receiving the presence that already surrounds us.

+ A Gentle Beginning

Sit still. Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly.
Breathe slowly and say aloud or within:

“God, You are closer than my next breath.”
Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly.
Let that truth settle into your body.

+ Scripture Meditation

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
—Psalm 145:18

You don’t have to “feel” God to trust He’s near.

His nearness is not based on emotion, but on promise.
He draws near not only to the joyful and grateful, but to the weary, the waiting, and the wandering.

So today, call on Him—not with polished words, but with truth.
He is already near.

This is the crux: God’s nearness isn’t something you have to earn—it’s a truth you’re invited to rest in. Even now, He is with you.

+ Beauty Reflection (Visio Divina)

Look at the image of a candle glowing in a shadowed space.

Notice how the flame doesn’t fill the room with light all at once—yet its presence changes everything.
It flickers quietly, but faithfully.
It warms the space. It holds the dark at bay.

As you gaze, ask:

  • What parts of my soul feel dim or shadowed right now?

  • Can I trust that even a small flame of God's presence is enough to comfort and guide me?

  • Where is God gently illuminating things I might be rushing past?

Let the stillness of the flame remind you:
God’s presence doesn’t always come in thunder or fire—but in a quiet flicker that never goes out.

You don’t need to summon Him.
You only need to notice.

+ Prayer Prompts (for your journal, your prayer time, or your heart)

Use these prompts to guide your prayer or journaling:

  • Lord, I confess where I’ve felt far from You…

  • Thank You for being near, even when I can’t feel it.

  • Help me slow down enough to notice You.

  • Dwell with me in this moment. Let my heart grow still.
